DESCRIPTION

CNC Machinist I must perform lathe and mill tasks, perform and run CNC operations, and fill in as needed to provide support to the Production Team.  In addition, produce machined parts by setting-up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sets up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers: indicating vices; tramming heads.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to regulations, safety procedures, and equipment by completing PM requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions and calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Measure performance consistent with the departments KPI's; Sales, Quality, Delivery, Cost.
  • Perform at a high level without sacrificing quality to support all corresponding Value Streams.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Consistently displays a sense of urgency in meeting all deadlines and goals, keeping in mind that quality and timeliness are of paramount importance to management and our customers.
  • Must keep workstation and equipment clean daily & maintenance up to date.
  • Assist other CNC Operators with repairs or replacement work if necessary.
  • Makes supervisor aware of unsafe work practices or conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Education & Experience

  • Entry level or 1-2 years' experience. 12-month technical program, High school diploma, GED or minimum 6 months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Competencies

  • Communication Proficiency
    • Excellent English language written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and barcode labels.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

    • Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics.
    • Ability to use and read measuring instruments.

    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

The employee will be subject to prolonged standing.  The employee must be able to manipulate and assemble small parts.   • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Weight requirement: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 62 pounds and push/pull up to 67 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, this position operates in a manufacturing environment and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in this work environment can be loud. Surrounding the environment is moving equipment, saws, cranes and other equipment that if not used with care can prove to be dangerous.
